What is the French word for a knitting project that is cool, yet drives one crazy and can be a little boring at times? NO? Oh, you wanted "What is the French word for a scarf that is the latest craze?" I finished the Clapotis and I love it. I am excited to take it over the pond soon and see how handy it will be. I've already used it as a lap throw over my legs keeping them warm from the AC. It is about 6 feet long, gold, brown and ecru varigated. I have some thread left over that I might try to make some wrist warmers to match. (CLAP-O-TEE) The Calpotis has a drop stitch in the pattern which is fun when you get to that point. You really start to see the pattern "POP OUT" at you. Then when you get to the decreasing part - it takes off like a bandit.

Will I make another one???? Are you crazy???? Yes, I do intend to make another one in a shorter scarf version using a solid color. But, first other projects on the needles must be finished. I have a scarf for son #1 that has been in the works since last January.

One FINISH for September

So far, I have ONE finished product for September. I had intended to finish knitting the Knit for Kids Sweater project on my five day trip to the Allegheny Mountains and I did it. I was so happy when I ran my needle through those final stitches. So, here is a shot of my finished sweater that will be sent off to Guideposts as a gift to a needy child. This makes me feel so happy.

I started the next one, too, and made good progress while on my trip. I knitted in the late afternoons and evenings usually after spending my days on the river in my canoe. (OH, Lordy, but this is fun!!!)

I plan to have one more finish this month - it will be the Penelope Blouse by Oat Couture. I had wanted to have it finished by June but that just never happened. Tomorrow, I will pull it out of the knitting bag and begin to knit my way to my next finish for September.

And, when I got home today from my trip I spent the afternoon in my garage taking photos of yarns I know I will never use. I photographed almost 40 groups of yarn and plan to put them on Ebay in the next couple of days. There are yarns that are handspun from Guatamala, linen on cones, pure silks, drop spindles, weaving and knitting tools, custom dyes for fibers, and lots of wonderful things that I will just never get around to using. I need to share them with someone who really will and this will be another way for me to cut down on the stash. And, this will barely make a dent in it I have to admit. But, it is a good start. I spent the past couple of weeks organizing my stash and putting it in see-through containers in my fiber studio.

My Summer Wrap Up

Summer ends here in the States tomorrow and so here is my wrap up --not too bad....

My goals are in black and the outcome colored:

1. Finish my UFOs which right now is a Rowan Sweater, lace scarf, from SASE and my Klee Scarf. Knitted 18 inches of the 60 inch Klee Scarf, completed back of Rowan sweater, & frogged the lace scarf and rewound the yarn.
2. Keep up on my Under-Cover Club afghan squares (2 a month) Yep! 8 complete
3. Make a hat for my blog friends Michele’s charity group. No
4. Knit another pair of socks (or 2) from my giant pile of sock yarns – Yep 2 pairs complete and 2 more OTN
5. Re-knit a shrug I made and had to frog completely as it was too small! No

Rules:1. I can buy a skein if needed to finish a project (don't think I'll need this, but...) Had to buy 2 skeins for a class I took.
2. I can buy yarn when I go to Alaska in 2 weeks. Only bought 1 for myself
3. I can buy yarn if I need something specific for a gift that I don’t have in my stash. Yep 2 skeins for a wine bag for Christmas
4. I have a July coupon from my LYS that is “buy-one-ball-get-one-free” for my nieces slippers for Christmas. Yep yarn for slipper purchased

I don't know how successful I was, but it sure made me aware of my yarn and projects I need to finish/start. My yarn room is much more organized and I did get some things off the needles.

Hi Everyone,

I am about to take off for a few days of relaxing and fun in my little red canoe, on the Allegheny River in Western, PA. I am taking my knitting bag along and PLAN to finish up the "Knit for Kids" sweater I have had on the needles for MONTHS. Yes, I see a finish in sight! This sweater is for the Guideposts project, sweaters for children all over the world. I will make TWO this year and send off. That is my goal. The one I will be finishing up is #1 and I have already begun #2.

I have been doing ok on my stashbusting, sort of.
I have not been buying yarn since January 15, with one exception when I was in Austria and Germany. But, that was a planned yarn buying trip. There should be no more this year. My goal is to work from stash for one year. I am on track. But, the reason I am writing today is to share a project with you that I am working on right now.

My knitting has been going slowly this summer because of trips to Austria, Germany, and NYC, and a beach week. But, in between I have started my Sabbatical Project. You can read about that on my blog if you like. I have posted photos today, to show what I have been working on. I hope you enjoy taking a peek. I have completed three projects so far. And, I have till next January to work in my studio so I am excited to think of what I might be doing till then.

Well I have knitted 5 scarves this past week. I hate to say that I have add some yarn but it has been for scarves and dishclohs. Currently on the needles is a dishcloth and another scarf. I do have older projects and will get to them very soon.

Update on my Stash- Out

Well this is a photo of my latest sock. I had this Sockotta yarn for over a year and now its gone. I also got rid of 2 other balls of sock yarn for a swap, and other ball of kitchen cotton.

I have been keeping up with my Under Cover Club aftgan squares. It get patterns for 2 squares a month and so far so good -- 6 complete!

On the other hand, I have purchased 8 more balls of sock yarn, but that doesn't count -- right?

I finshed off another pink trefoil dishcloth. This is the first one that I have a mistake in so I guess I get to keep it!

Also I finished of a scarf that will be going in a Village Christmas. I used Knitpicks butterfly kisses and sparkle yarns in red/blue/white and red. Looks really nice.

Well this went bust. I bought yarn to do scarves for a Village Christmas that will be in November. I am putting in a table.

2. To complete some of my UFO's:
a. Matt's sweater just needs to be sewed
b. Miki's sweater
c. Poncho - not sure who it’s for yet - just needs to be sewed
d. The 6 cable sweater I started back in 1992 that no longer will fit but is almost done.
f. Sewing buttons on a few things that need them and tucking ends into others so that they are 100% finished.
e. Scarf for my niece
f. Irish hiking scarf
g. scarf for the a Village Christmas
h. 8 more scarves for a Village Christmas.

3. To work on depleting some of my new yarns into the projects that I bought them for:
1. Bernat Satin top for me
2. Hat for Matt - can't think of the name but its 100% virgin wool
3. Hat for Miki - same as above
4. Cotton top for me - Twilley's Freedom Cotton DK in navy
5. Sweater for 1st niece for Chrismtas 2007
5b. Sweater for 2nd niece for Christmas 2007
5. various scarves that I have done - just have to be sewed.
6. to use up some of the dish cloth yarns that I have had for awhile.
6a. 2- A+ apple dishcloths.
6b. more trefoil dishcloths. I have enough to do 2 more pink, 2 orange, 2 blue and 2 green. The colours of Sparks, Brownies, Guides, and Pathfinders. Probablly could do Rangers as well in red.
6c. 4 balls of French blue to knit into an awesome dishcloth or two. 2 balls went to my good friend Isabelle (she’s French blue).
6d. 2 balls of green -sage I think. Some neat dishcloth pattern in that.

4. I won't buy any more yarn on sale till after the SSO is done or till I use up alot of this yarn.
5. To work on the project of the month and finish them.
I think that's good for me for now. Could add more if I get through these lists.

Exceptions:

1. A knitting magazine that may come out during this time
2. A ball of yarn to finish a project. Shouldn't have too as I normally buy an extra ball.

I finished my Dr Bag, which used up 3 hanks of Manos del Uruguay

and a Scarf Askew, which took 2 hanks of Rowanspun DK.

I have not gotten anything new outside of my rules, though I confess I almost did cave in when I found a sale on GGH yarn. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it), the sale was over when I called them. So I'm still on track. I'm gonna get some new projects casted on soon. Yeah!

I know I am abit late but I hope everyone has enjoyed their holidays. I knitted a scarf for the Village Christmas and I did a maple dishcloth in honour of Canada Day! My yarn from knitpicks was at the post office so I know have 8 new balls of yarn to knit into some fabulous sarves for Christmas!

OK Here's an update on how my stash-out is going:

One of my goals was to keep up with my blanket square club -- so far so good. New shipment comes the 1st and I am ready to go!

I had started a scarf in KAL and really did not like how it was turning out, and so I frogged it and rewound the yarn.
Second sock of a pair just has about 3 inches left to go

Here's the bad part:

I did allow in my rules to buy vacation yarn -- only bought 1 ball of sock yarn hand-made in Alaska
Bought 1 ball of sock yarn and 2 balls to finish a project (see above) , but used my paypal funds from selling stash.
Bought 2 balls of sock yarn that were seriously marked down- again paypal
Bought 2 ball of Kureyon for a wine bag kit using for a holiday gift.- paypal

I guess that's not so bad....

I've been trying to clear up some of my WIPs in anticipation of MS3, which begins tomorrow. With that in mind, I finished working on and blocked my Seraphim Shawl last night. I know that some people don't think variegated yarns work well with lace, but I think this is one case where that is not true. The very subtly colored yarn worked wonderfully with the design, and I love the result.

Pattern: Seraphim by Miriam Felton
Yarn: Knitpicks Bare, dyed by moi
Size: 79.5in wide by 38 in deep
Needles: 3.75mm Knitpicks Options needles

So that's three shawls completed. I think that I will be frogging the last shawl that I have OTN, as I'm finding the pattern not interesting enough. Slogging through all the stockinette on this one was a beast. The shaped triangle shawl is not stockinette, but it is a four-stitch repeat for approx 110 rows, and that is totally not interesting to me right now. I have managed to work on reducing my sock yarn stash, and have cast on another pair of socks, this time using the 2 socks on 2 circs technique. I'm also doing them toe-up, so that there's no yarn left at the end. Maybe this way the socks will get done in a timely manner this summer. I don't have to make my sister's sweater, since she can't figure out what the pattern was. I'm just going to replace that one with my Mystery Stole.

I'm amazed that I've managed to avoid buying any yarn. I even had what I needed for MS3 on hand. I DO go and look though. I just manage to navigate away from the page before temptation gets to me.

Destashed another 6 balls

Okay they weren't just destashed!

I had a contest on my blog and I gave away:

2 balls of Patons Melody in black (100gr each)
2 balls of Bernat Cotton in (not sure the real name but in red/pink colours)

I did a RAK to a friend who will love this colour of Bernat Cotton 2 balls to her. Can't say who or what as she is on this list.

So 300 grams more gone from the stash. Wow!!!

Now if I can figure out what to do with the Patons Bohemenia, I'd be good to go!

Boy everyone is doing a great job! Keep on knitting! I have been stash busting abit again. I participated in the Knitted Tea Swap 3 - though most of the yarn was new (bought before SSO) I can say I destashed abit.

I don't think my partner is on this list. Oops if she is!

I sent her:

1 ball of One(I believe its called) sock yarn
2 balls of Bernat cotton in earthy tones
2 balls of Patons Divine
1 ball of Patons Brilliant (plus a pattern to make a shawl)

I've knitted 2 A++ dishcloths so far and almost done a scarf in multi tones of earth colours.

I have been asked to participate in "A Village Christmas" so I had to add some foo foo yarns for scarves. So its not for me but to sell at a craft show in the fall. I have alot of knitting to do for that! And I am looking forward to it. I did ummmmm..... order 10 balls of yarn from knit picks that was on sale for scarves and I won't order any more till I use them up.

Plus I want to do some Christmas ornaments and more dishcloths and maybe slippers. Little stocking stuffers for little kids or big kids.

Well have to get the kids to school. One more day!

Summertime Tunic

Finished some projects!

I've been working away at two things... creating my Christmas knits list, and de-stashing in the process... I've knit 2 of my Snowman hats, which are gifts, ... need to photograph them to share, and I also finished my DDs tank dress. This was a pattern of my own creation, and as a first timer at knitting a project such as this, I'm not surprised that it's a tad too big... My DD doesn't care, and it does look cute on her... :-) She can wear it with a bathing suit this year, and then next year it should fit her a lot better... note to self... when knitting with microspun, remember it has a LOT of stretch!

Project # 2 Finished- The Shetland Triangle Shawl

I've finished another of my shawls for the 2007 Summer Stash Out! Feelin' good about my progress, too.

Although this is more of a shawlette, it's definitely appropriate for a July wedding. If you knew my friend Kat, you'd understand the color selection too. She is absolutely in love with pink. In fact, the shawl matched her outfit because you can invariably find her wearing pink most days of the week. Plus, she really wanted something she could wear over her hip, and this little thing will do the job well.

Stats:
Pattern: Shetland Triangle Shawl from Wrap Style
Designer: Evelyn A. Clark
Yarn: Jaggerspun Zephyr in Coral (from Sarah's Yarns)
Needles: 3.75mm Addi Lace Needles (love, love, love them)
Dimensions: 42" x 20"
Next time, I may use fingering weight yarn and do more repeats. This is a light and delicate looking piece of lace. It was suggested as the only thing she wear on her wedding night, which I got a big hug for from her fiance. HE thought it was a great idea, of course!

Penelope Progress

I am reporting in for the KAL-in-KAL...
After a rocky start, the Penelope Blouse is now going just fine. This is an Oat Couture pattern and I just love the way it looks in the pictures. But, I was about to give up on it.
I chose this project because I am not a lace knitter and wanted to learn. But I know nothing about knitting lace, and so I struggled on with it, try after try. After about 6 starts, frogging, and cursing, the Penelope Blouse is now on the way to becoming something that I just might be able to finish. I finally figured out that I needed to put a stitch marker at the beginning and end of every pattern repeat. Otherwise, I would get lost, screw up the whole thing, and have to begin all over again. And, several times this was after days of knitting. OH, MY! I was frustrated!

So that is where I am with my June Project. I have now tied on the second ball of yarn. This yarn is Lana Grossa Basic, 100% cotton. I bought it in Germany last summer. It is very wonderful yarn and I plan to buy more of it when I am back there in another couple of weeks. I am just CRAZY for this Lana Grossa Yarn.

Hey all,

I found a pattern that I like for a Market bag. With Alterations here... I began the search after the new Aldi's opened by DHs work a few weeks ago.. They don't have bags in the store and he wanted to have something to carry as he shopped... so I said I'd find a pattern and knit one up. This morning I surfed through the immense pile of Sugar 'n cream to find blah 'natural'a color he surely won't complain about and began knitting from this pattern... this is my first real attempt at lace... so my first few rows were NOT so 'great'.. but I get it know and DH won't care if one edge isn't pristine! :-)

I also found a great bag pattern here that I will knit from some other cotton for my Vacation Swap pal (yet to be assigned)... I'm from NC and any vacation here should include a beach trip in the outer banks.. and what beach trip is complete without a great beach bag!?!?

I may knit up a few for my super crunchy SIL... and add it to her christmas list :-) that I have on my Christmas KAL.

This will surely be a good kitchen cotton stash buster!

My STASH Revealed!

In addition, I have been a part of Secret Pal 10 which is winding down very soon now. But, as part of that blog/exchange our leader asked us to reveal our stash on our blog. Since this blog (2007 Summerstashout) is also about dealing with and getting our Stash whittled DOWN I decided to photograph my stash. I was thinking it would take about 2 or 3 photos to do that. Well, it ended up taking SIX photos. Along with that I photographed my UFOs, too. I had TEN UFO's when I signed up here for the 2007 Summer Stash Out Blog. I finished one right after that, and I am working on another that should be finished within the week. I'm new to this blogging thing, so hope I don't write something dumb, LOL!

My guess for your contest is 10 unfinished projects.

As far as my own stash reduction - I recently finished 4 Guideposts sweaters (Guideposts is a magazine filled with inspirational stories by readers and they have an ongoing project called "Knit for Kids" where they send sweaters to poor children around the world). Three of the sweaters were made with Red Heart Grande yarn, it's the thickest yarn I've ever worked with and was originally purchased to make hats and scarves for one of my Yahoo-based charity groups. However, I didn't have time to complete as many as I would have liked so I still had lots of yarn to get rid of and no patterns for super-bulky yarn. So I pulled out the Guideposts pattern and recalculated the correct number of stitches since it calls for worsted, and away I went! The fourth sweater was made from leftover worsted yarn from 2 projects; a black vest for my son and variegated green & white slippers for the same group mentioned above. Unfortunately I mailed them away yesterday and it dawned on me this morning that I failed to take pictures.

Of course those 3 sweaters didn't use all the Grande yarn, so several hats have also been made from it, and other hats have been made using what was left after the 4th Guideposts sweater as well as yarn from other previous projects. Currently I have 8 completed hats sized for children and adults, and one more on the needles. These hats will go to an event sponsored by Heavenly Angels in Need, another charity I'm involved with.

Also, another Yahoo group I joined is sending 8" squares to a project called "Rebuilding Greensburg". I've created 4 so far, again using the remains of yarn skeins I couldn't use for anything bigger; I've exhausted my supply of "kelly green" and "country blue" but only made a little dent in the 16-oz "coffee" skein which was the only one of that color in the store and I needed it to make one very small repair to a sweater of the same shade. I thought I could make lots of hats that skein, but got tired of the color after 3 were completed so maybe I can combine with another color to make striped hats.

I finished knitting the Kimono Shawl on Sunday afternoon and blocked it immediately. It dried overnight and is now gracing my window with it's beauty.

New Stashout Member

Hello,
I am new to this blog. I started to work only from my Stash last January 15. I have outlined my plans to complete all my UFOs (currently I have 10 of them) and to create other things from my stash as well.

My goal is to work only from stash for this entire year with two exceptions. On exception is that I had to buy a few skeins of yarn to send to Secret Pals that I belong to for exchanges. The second exception is that I will be traveling in Austria and Germany in June/July and I plan to buy some yarn there for making into Trachten. I am going with some very specific patterns which I intend to buy the yarn for, not just randomly buying up yarn because I "can." (That is normally what I would be doing.) This year, I am going with a PLAN, no impulse buying and buying only a select few kind of yarns that I need for very specific projects.

I started knitting for Christmas gifts last January, too. Those things are being knitted from my Stash as well. I have a couple of drawers where I am stashing the gift items as I finish them. Won't it be amazing next Christmas to already have nice hand-knitted gifts all made and ready to wrap. I think so.

A week into the 2007 SSO

Well its been about a week or almost two since I started the 2007 SSO and so here is the May progress report:

3 balls used for 3 dish cloths knitted ( blue, pink and light green) trefoil pattern.
5 balls used for a Fiore scarf knitted (donated the scarf to a friends silent auction at her school).

Returned the following yarn. Yes! You read right

12 balls of Bernat Satin 100 grams each
2 ball of Bernat Cotton appr. 50 grams each
8 balls of Primavera Nova Yarn 5o grams each
1 ball of Bernat Denimum 100 grams

So grand total of 1450 grams of yarn returned. I still have alot of knitting. I did put an order in for yarn for sweaters for my nieces. My Just for Kids book came in and I have the yarn on hold till August (downpayment came from the Primavera yarns - so basically switching out).

On the needles to finish that I started this month is:

A+ apple dishcloth for teacher helper (need to do two of these maybe two for dd teach too)
scarf for a Christmas gift and I can do a matching hat and mitts if I have enough of the funky yarn.

1.5 Skeins Used!

I knitted up a scarf yesterday using a pattern from the book One Skein Wonders. I used a skein and one half of Bernat Softee Chunky in the color Circus. It is really a very pretty scarf and I have enough left of the yarn to make a hat to match. The pattern was very easy and very fast and I learned how to do a new kind of bind off! I just started another scarf using the same pattern using size 19 needles, and four skeins of Fancy Fur, I think. The label is on the other side of the room. I am lazy today. I don't want to get up and get it. Anyway, the color is Stained Glass Black. I have four skeins and I plan on using all four skeins to knit this scarf. It will be very long and very fuzzy. After this, I won't have much fun fur like yarn in my stash. I will have some Bernat Matrix but I can knit that up with some fake mohair stuff that I have. I will make a scarf or something with that. I may use that Bernat Matrix with my Knifty Knitter Looms. I heard from someone that it is easier to work that yarn on a loom than it is to knit it. I am going to do nothing but knit most of the day today so I should at least get two skeins worked on this newest scarf! YEA!!!!!!!! SO far, I haven't been anywhere to see yarn, so no temptation has happened yet. Yet is the key word there. lol.

This is going to be tough, even though I'm doing what I can to keep from being tempted! I have a skein of Manos that I needed to return to my LYS, but I avoided doing it during the Memorial Day weekend--just in case they were having a sale. And I just now unsubscribed myself from various ebay notifications for knitting-related searches. And I stopped looking at Amazon to see if there are new knitting books since I made it a rule for myself not to get books or mags either. (BTW, for those of you who can still get books, Amazon has Knit 2 Together and Greeting From Knit Cafe for like $6 a piece---argh! Darn you, Amazon!)

What are we, 2 days into this? My birthday was on Sunday, and I got two gift certificates - one to an LYS, and one to Yarnmarket. The yarn that I REALLY REALLY want at Yarnmarket is the Artyarns Supermerino in the Irises colorway. It is sooooo pretty. But if I buy the amount I want, I will end up spending more than the value of the gift certificate. So what do I do? Do I splurge? Do I hold off? Help me!

OK -- this is part of my Summer Stash Out:

First of all, I went through all my yarn and sorted it all out. Then I listed the unused items for e-bay and what doesn't sell, will go to the garage sale in July.

I packaged all yarn up with the patterns for each project and made a OTN list and a "to do" list that is stored in my computer for future reference. I will try to locate patterns for my other oddballs.

So far I knitted the dragonfly dishcloth and 3 coasters to felt from 1 ball of Kuryeon and scraps. The blue scarf is from 1 ball of Knit Picks Decadence alpaca and the pattern is from "One Skein Wonders" see page 29 . The striped scarf is the famous "Klee Scarf” (www.woolplay.com) that is one of my OTN goals for this summer.

I went to my LYS on Saturday and bought only note cards, which is amazing! So far so good!

Welcome to everyone who joined over the weekend!

As for me, I started the Babette Blanket Friday evening.
This is the pool of yarn I have to pull from. I also have a crochet skirt and two sweaters on the needles, so the leftover from those projects will be added. Since there are so many bits and pieces, this will primarily be an 'at home in front of the tv' project.

And here are my first 11 squares! I started with the orange star square and have kept going from there. My three favorite so far are the large blue/purple combo [at the top right corner] the red/pink/green combo [at the center] and the green/purple combo [at the bottom left]. My least favorite, the blue/orange combo [the top left square] is the one that looks the most interesting in this picture! I think it's growing on me.

Hi, everyone!

I've made an accounting of my stash and have set up these rules for myself:

No buying any yarn, books, or magazines
I will allow myself an exception for some Habu fine merino that had already been ordered by a yarn store for me but won't come in till sometime this summer
I will allow myself an exception for any yarn I may need to make the Christmas presents I'm intending to make
Gifts and trades do not count

If I manage to do these (along with some other goals I set for the summer), I will allow myself to buy all the supplies for a project from my queue, plus either a book or new mag on Labor Day.

Hi all,
I have a charmed stash and it does not matter how much I knit and I do not buy yarn (I have been participating to Knit from Your Stash 2007 and I swear I have been really good), the stash always stays around 500 balls.

Today stats: 494 balls, 86,879 yards.

And I am sure there is more around the house, I just stopped looking.

My rules for Knit from Your Stash 2007 are here. Starting from those, my updated rules for 2007 Summer Stash Out:

1. I will not buy yarn between Memorial day and Labor Day;
2. Sock yarn does count;
3. I get an exception for each WIP I complete, but I can buy only half of the yarn I used; i.e. if I use 200 yds, I can buy only 100.

I'm happy to be joining you for this summer project. I really need the support as I try to resist the call of new yarns over the summer. I plan to focus on using my stash and saving mone for Stitches East this year.

My Goals:

1. Use up at least 1/3 of my sock yarn (The biggie).
2. Finish the 3 shawls currently OTN. My Kimono Shawl is half way finished. I'm making a Shetland Triange for a friend to wear at her wedding in July, and my seraphim is at the bottom motif section.
3. Make the sweater that my sister requested.
4. Don't start any new projects until these are completed.

Patterns, books, needles, and notions are OK.

Well, we'll see how this goes in the coming months.

I did my last 'purchases' last week before our trip to PA... and since leaving for the trip, I have finished a scarf for myself (I never knit for myself), 2 hats out of 3 for my niece and two nephews for christmas, 4 1/2 dishcloths for swaps and gifts! All have been knitted from stash of course! Wahoo!

I also have designed (in my head), a tank dress similar to one that Isabelle (aka Tricotine) made for her DD... and I will make one for each of my daughters (again from stash)... I'm so thrilled to be figuring out ways to use my stash!

Hi! I'm Sarah and I am a yarn junkie, not a yarn addict. Addict's go to classes. lol. Anyway, I have way to much yarn, and since I am out of school for the summer (yea!!!!) I am goiing to try to use up some yarn. I am kind of basing my stash usage on projects I already have going. So, here are my goals.

1. Don't buy any yarn until the kint a long says I can.
2. Finish what I have started.
a. Phillip's hat
b. Fun Fetti scarf
c. Mini Sweaters for my uncles Christmas presents
d. One pair of mittens a week
e. Prayer shawl I have going
3. Use up at least two skeins of Homespun (I have way to much)

There are my goals and I plan on finishing all of them. I can probably finish Phillip's hat today, and work on the mittens after I finish the hat. It shouldn't take me long. I am using Jiffy yarn and a pattern off the Lion Brand website. It uses size 10 and 10.5 needles. Very fast.

Oh my reward! I think my reward will be to buy two skeins of really really really good yarn or something I have been wanting.

Hey, I'm Tammy from Oregon. I have a stash problem and it's growing. I actually have several goals already posted on my blog. Another blogger was/is having a contest of summer projects so I listed just a few that I definitely want to get done.

1. Sweater--Whitney from RYC, I am almost done with it. Just the fronts and sewing it up.

2. Felted Bag for a swap.

3. Felted Computer Bag for my new computer.

4. Grasshopper knee hi's from RSC/BMFA.

5. Finish my Mystic Sea Socks also from BMFA.

6. Chevron Scarf

7. 4th of July, Red, White, and Blue Socks.

8. Finish Bridgit's Baby Blanket started last summer!!

9. Several blocks for an Aran Afghan KAL at the lys, I stalled while on Spring Vacation.

10. Tank top of some kind. Have various yarns in the stash that would work for it.

My rules:

1. Yarn to finish the first sweater. I should know that by the end of the weekend. I hope I don't.

2. Black Sheep Gathering in June, I am working at it this year, so I will really get to see everything. Though my one purchase from it, I hope, is going to be a spinning wheel. I will probably buy roving, if I get said spinning wheel. And there is an alpaca farm that I wished I had gotten more hand spun lace weight from last year. Very inexpensive, so I am going to definitely seek her out.

3. I have a ton of sock yarn, literally!! I also have a lot of yarn for Christmas lace scarves for my mom and aunt. So, even sock yarn is off limits.

4. Yarn for a swap, though I will try to take it from my stash first. Oh, and previously ordered yarn is ok. I only have one package of it that I am aware of. It should be here by Tuesday.

I think that's it for me. I have 4 straight days of no work/activities, so I want to knit and play on my computer.

Hi everyone! I'm Susan and I live in Vancouver, BC, Canada. I had actually made a vow to use my stash just before I found this blog, so the timing is perfect for me.

I'm planning to use my stash not only of yarn, but also of other craft supplies, patterns, stationery, notebooks (oh, I have quite a problem with notebooks!), books, magazines, and even ideas. That is, I want to knit with the yarn I have, read the books I have, fill some of those notebooks before I buy more, and follow through on ideas and projects.

These are my rules:
No buying any of the above items with the following exceptions:

I can buy supplies or tools needed to complete an already started project.
I can buy supplies or tools for a new project ONLY if more than half of what I need is coming from my stash.
I can buy supplies or tools for specific gifts, but ONLY if I don't have anything appropriate in my stash.
I can buy a reasonable amount of yarn or other items while on vacation (now, I need to define "reasonable"!).
I can use gift money for whatever I want (thank goodness my birthday is coming up!).

I have so many unfinished projects and it's been so long since I've even seen some of them that I'm not quite sure what I have! I will be making an inventory of supplies and projects as I redo my sewing room.

I'm also in Leigh Ann's KAL group and I'm working on the prayer shawl. It's kind of an emotional experience for me, as I'm making it for my cousin who has cancer.

I'm looking forward to hearing about everyone's progress!

Hi all, I'm Christie. Here are my goals for the summer.

Goals
1. Babette Blanket: Being a blanket, I don't foresee that I will have this entire project done by September [but who knows?]. My goal for this project is to use up 50-75% of my bits and odd ball leftovers for this project. This may seem a little generous, but I will be working on other projects during the summer, not only will I be dividing my time, but my source to pull from will constantly be renewing itself. If I can get rid of most of it, I will feel super accomplished.

2. Felted Something or other: I also have a large bag of feltable wool. I think that I will knit up another French Market bag or something similar to use instead of those evil plastic grocery bags.

And the bonus category:
3. Finish Butterfly Tank: It's been sitting around for months. I need to get it out of my hair once and for all.

Rules
1. Can buy magazines, books and other tools.
2. Can buy yarn if on vacation or find once in a lifetime deal.

Reward:
I will treat myself to a sweaters worth of some fabulous yarn! And a book/magazine if I get my bonus item completed.

I'm looking forward to starting my crafting this weekend!

Fiore Scarf completed

Well I started a scarf tonight and finished it. The first two balls went really quick. I used 5 balls of Fiore, earth tones, and 9mm needles. It hands almost to my feet! lol I can double it or wrap it a few times around me. Might be a christmas gift - not sure yet.

So 195 yards or 250 grams of yarn used along with the Bernat Cotton I used earlier today. Not bad!

I'll take a photo of it later as its time for bed.

Well I have knitted two dishcloths! I did one in a light green and the other in a pink (reminds me of peptobismal lol). I did them in the "trefoil" pattern.

I am heading out of town for the next couple of days so I don't know how much knitting I will get done. I am planting my one garden at the farm and then heading home for my garden here.

Hey everybody! I'm Sally and I live in PA. My friend Liz and her cohorts ran this blog last summer, and now I'm ready to join this summer (I think). ;o) So here are my personal rules for this here Summer Stash Out:

1. I need to finish my FOs, which are numerous: Zen Garden Stole, Green Gable, Ripple Afghan (crocheted), Crop Cardigan (crocheted), leg warmers from Last Minute Knitted Gifts, and a knitted afghan.
2. I am only going to start projects for which I already have the yarn. This includes the Rusted Root, a felted bag, a sweater in Berroco's Trilogy, one in Cascade 220 Heathers, one in Noro Silk Garden, a sweater for my daughter, and scarves and hats galore.
3. No yarn purchases!
4. I will use yarn from my stash for knitting swaps.
5. I will not buy any new books (eek!).

Exceptions:
1. I can buy magazines.
2. I can buy yarn to finish a project that is already in the works.
3. I can buy yarn in Santa Fe on vacation in July.

I think that pretty much covers it. My husband will be very glad that I am doing this, and I'm pretty sure I'm glad too. I have so much darn yarn that I'm not even sure what I have. Really. It's quite sad.

1. Finish my UFOs which right now is a Rowan Sweater, lace scarf, from SASE and my Klee Scarf
2. Keep up on my Under-Cover Club afghan squares (2 a month)
3. Make a hat for my blog friends Michele’s charity group
4. Knit another pair of socks (or 2) from my giant pile of sock yarns
5. Re-knit a shrug I made and had to frog completely as it was too small!

Rules:
1. I can buy a skein if needed to finish a project (don't think I'll need this, but...)
2. I can buy yarn when I go to Alaska in 2 weeks
3. I can buy yarn if I need something specific for a gift that I don’t have in my stash.
4. I have a July coupon from my LYS that is “buy-one-ball-get-one-free” for my nieces slippers for Christmas.

1. Finish my UFOs, namely, Abby's skirt, and my cabled scarf (need to find my pattern), my Colinette scarf (FINISHED)
2. Get significant work done on all three children's dishcloth afghans
3. Use up my spare 'leftovers' skeins on swap goodies
4. Knit up the hats for my niece and nephews for christmas (2/3 FINISHED)
5. Knit my mom's reader's wrap
6. Knit up some scarves to have on hand for christmas gifts
7. Knit dishcloths for extra gifts (5 completed)

Rules:
1. I can buy a skein if needed to finish a project
2. I can buy skeins of brown sheep cotton fleece for the children's afghan's once I've run out of what I pre-purchased
3. Once I finish my hat designs with what I have in my stash, I can purchase yarn for test knits of the various sizes in the different weight yarns I've envisioned
4. I can purchase yarn for my mom's reader's wrap, but ONLY after I have finished my UFOs.
5. I can purchase sock yarn for my first pair of socks :-)
6. Since we're moving to PA mid-summer, I can check out my new LYS and make at a minimum 2 purchases before Labor day.

My goals for he 2007 Summer Stash Out

My name is Leigh Ann and I have a stash problem as well. Okay some of these are from last year! Eeks! So I will finish them this year. I did get the 35 dishcloths done for my brownie group and they loved them! Made the tennis elbow worth it.

Any way..... my goals:

1. Not to buy any yarn until after the Labour Day weekend (depending on how much of the stash I have used). See April 2,2007 blog for pictures of the stash. My blog is: http://leighsknittinandgardeningescapades.blogspot.com/

2. To complete some of my UFO's:
a. Matt's sweater just needs to be sewed
b. Miki's sweater
c. Poncho - not sure who its for yet - jsut needs to be sewed
d. The 6 cable sweater I started back in 1992 that no longer will fit but is almost done.
f. Sewing buttons on a few things that need them and tucking ends into others so that
they are 100% finished.
3. To work on depleting some of my new yarns into the projects that I bought them for:
1. Bernat Satin top for me
2. Hat for Matt - can't think of the name but its 100% virgin wool
3. Hat for Miki - same as above
4. Cotton top for me - Twilley's Freedom Cotton DK in navy
5. various scarves that I have done - just have to be sewed
6. to use up some of the dish cloth yarns that I have had for awhile.
6a. 2- A+ apple dishcloths for Miki's teach and 2 for the helper so 4 in total
6b. more trefoil dishcloths. I have enough to do 2 more pink, 2 orange, 2 blue and 2 green. The colours of Sparks, Brownies, Guides, and Pathfinders. Probablly could do Rangers as well in red.
6c. 4 balls of French blue to knit into an awesome dishcloth or two.
6d. 2 balls of green -sage I think. Some neat dishcloth pattern in that.

4. I won't buy any more yarn on sale till after the SSO is done or till I use up alot of this yarn.
5. To work on the project of the month and finish them.
I think that's good for me for now. Could add more if I get through these lists.

Exceptions:

1. A knitting magazine that may come out during this time
2. A ball of yarn to finish a project. Shouldn't have too as I normally buy an extra ball.
3. If I go on a fab holiday and see an awesome yarn shop and the yarn calls to me. Fat chance this will happen but if it does I would be aloud.
4. Extra stitch counter if I have mutiple things on the go or I loose one. I really don't need any extra knitting stuff as I have alot as is.
5. Yarn for the project of the month. I probably will have the yarn in my stash but I may have to add to it depending on the project.
What's in it for me in the end.

Yarn used up and a feeling of accomplishment. Hopefully some Christmas presents will be finished and I won't be rushed then.

Longweekend starts tomorrow

Who's starting this weekend? I think I am going to check what yarns I have and I may have to enhance before I start. Is that a bad thing? hehe

I should just make do with what I have and go from there. I do have the KTS3 that I am participating in and I have the Project of the Month that I also am in. I will post all my criteria over the next few days.

I should say I do have alot of WIPS I should finish and I am going to bring a couple of them along to the farm and get them done. I am fighting and loosing a major battle with a headache at the moment. Though be veritical seems to help abit. I feel like I'm out to lala land. Ugh!!

Alrighty then... let the games begin!! I vow to finish the two pairs of socks I have had OTN since January or Feb!! I will also get this wool dyed and start (and hopefully finish!!) the Checkerboards I want to do for Christmas presents. I will actually be off work starting Wednesday afternoon through Friday 6/2, and will be home alone from Friday 5/24 through Monday 5/28, so I should be able to get alot of good knitting in, and get some of this yarn/projects finished! Thanks for the incentive!

Finished my KAL prayer shawl

Well I finished my KAL prayer shawl today. Looks good after a few minor problems. One being the first ball of Homespun, patterned in stripes, the second ball just had all the colours together and ball three was more beige than green. I took ball three back and was able to match up to ball two thank goodness. The ends are tucked in and I was wearing it earlier.

The only thing I have to decide is to fringe it or not? I'm not a big fringe fan so it wouldn't bother me in the least to leave it off. I do have enough yarn to do it so that isn't the problem neither.

I will try and get a photo posted to show everyone.

I am definitely going to stick to this. lol My name is Leigh Ann and I am a yarnaholic (or yarn whore). Sorry don't want to offend anyone but its true. I love yarn and have alot down in my basement. Now some of it is WHAT THE HECK WAS I THINKING!!! Or I CAN'T REMEMBER WHY I BOUGHT THAT! lol

But one of my goals is to finish off some of the projects that I have started. I will list my full list closer to the date and list my exceptions too. I have to have a couple of those!

I hope everyone will have fun with this as this is what it is intended for. No sheep or alapaca's will get hurt because of this.

1. Starting on the Victoria Day (May 21) to Labor Day, no yarn purchases allowed. You must knit from stash only and/or finish your works in progress or start your Christmas knitting projects. Sign up will close May 28. This gives everyone a chance to join. If you wish to join the 2007SSO email me at leigh33ca@yahoo.com.

2. Each 2007SSO member may have up to two exceptions to their rule this summer. Use them wisely! :) Whether you are going to the yarn capital of the world or going on a great vacation with lots of yarn shop temptations.

3. Be creatuve in your ideals of stash reduction. Whether you are knitting toys for tots, hats for the homeless. A blanket of many colours. Share your projects and ideas with other 2007SSO members. Rules only to yarn purchases. Books, patterns, and needles/notions needed to complete projects are allowed and encouraged if it gets you through the summer.

6. Most important is that we are here to have fun. Share our experiences with each other and see some great knitting!
